The much anticipated Bukhungu stadium BBI rally has proposed some radical changes to the BBI report in what has been dubbed the ‘Bukhungu Declaration’. The proposals which the western region want added to the report will see the BBI report significantly altered from its current form. In a declaration read by Vihiga governor Wilberforce Otchilo, the leaders called for the amendment of BBI to include the post of an executive Prime Minister and two deputies. The declaration also called for radical changes to the structure of EACC in order to curb rampant corruption and misuse of public resources. The speakers also called for the inclusion of clauses for reforming of IEBC by devolving some of its functions to the county level. This they say will mitigate against election rigging and voter manipulation.
The Bukhungu stadium rally was attended governors, senators, MPs, and other pro-handshake politicians. In a quite a turn of events, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula were also in attendance. The duo were implored last night by opposition leader Raila Odinga during a private meeting at the home of Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala. Also in attendance was Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru–a leading pro BBI figure in Mt. Kenya.
Elsewhere 35km, a meeting that was convened by anti-BBI team in Mumias aborted after a heavy contingent of police were deployed. Several policemen were aslo deployed to the homes of some MPS apparently to put them under house arrest.
