Elachi files case seeking to be allowed to assume the role of governor

Nairobi speaker has filed a case in court seeking to be allowed to assume the roles of the governor. Elachi in court papers filed by her lawyers avers that under the constitution she is the substantive governor of Nairobi County in the absence of governor and deputy. governor

Elachi has laid several grounds for her case among them being that there is a constitutional crisis at City Hall occasioned by the court’s decision to bar Mike Sonko from office

The Nairobi speaker also argues that the residents of Nairobi have been denied essential services due to lack of a substantive governor.

Elachi has urged the court to allow her assume the role of governor pending hearing and determination of her case. The case has been certified urgent and ordered to serve the respondents.

Elachi’s application points to a syndicated scheme to oust the embattled governor Mike Sonko from office. Daily Star has since learned that the scheme to remove Sonko was hatched 2 months ago and is supported by powerful figures within State House. First on the cards, was the impeachment of Sonko, but with the MCAs having developed cold feet, a second plot was hatched which saw Elachi moved to court. Elachi’s move to take over the leadership of Nairobi county is said to have the support of Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
