An Eldoret businessman cum politician David Letting aka Kokwas has been released by Eldoret court after posting cash bail of ksh. 10,000. Kokwas has been in custody for the past 3 days after he was arrested for beating up Kipkenyo ward MCA Hilary Rono who was his competitor in 2017 ward election. Hillary Rono vying as an independent candidate beat Kokwas a jubilee candidate in last polls.

Kokwas –a former mayor with the defunct Wareng county council – allegedly incited youth to storm a public participation meeting for a local Technical Training Institute in Kipkenyo that was presided by Hillary Rono who is the area MCA. The ward representative sustained serious injuries and was treated in hospital tall.

“I was in a meeting at Eldoret Vocational Training Center when goons brandishing crude weapons stormed the venue and started beating me up. They alleged I did not include them in the public participation process but the truth is they were send by my competitor Kokwas over personal political vendetta,” said the MCA. He reiterated that he suffered head, shoulders, and legs injuries after the attack.

Since his release from hospital, the mca says he is fearing for his life and has been forced to live in a secret location far away from home.

My life is in danger and that of my family. Several people have been trailing me and have been forced to seek refuge in a neighboring county. Fighting for the rights of the people comes with a price and am prepared to pay” said the Kipkenyo ward MCA .

“Kokwas whom I beat squarely after the 2017 polls has been threatening me since the last polls. He is now saying there will be a by-election in March 2020 after my death. Those are threats which should not be taken lightly,” he added

Kokwas owns several plots within Eldoret town majority of which are believed to have been acquired irregularly while he was the mayor. One estate called Kokwas bordering West Indies in Eldoret is owned by the businessman.
