Jubile Mps have planned a mega prayer rally in Eldoret to be held on the 16th of February in Eldoret Sports Club. The meeting will coincide with the BBI rally at 64 stadium, paltry 3 miles away. The planned parallel rally comes in the wake of Mumias meeting which was banned by police citing logistical challenges in providing security as all officers had been deployed to Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega. On the contrary, a contingent of GSU officers were later deployed to Mumias to block any gathering.
Organizers of the Eldoret prayer rally have already notified the police and received the go ahead. The meeting dubbed ‘Peace Anniversary’ will be to celebrate 8 years of peaceful co-existence among various communities living in Rift Valley. Over 200 Jubilee Mps, several governors, businessmen, the clergy are expected to attend the rally whose quest of honor will be former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri. According to organizers, the event will begin with roadshows starting from Maili nne, snaking its way along Eldoret-Uganda road and culminating in a mega event at Eldoret Sports Club.
The organizers have warned the police against interfering with the prayer rally. The one million man match event according to the conveners is expected to be the biggest rally in Eldoret in recent times bringing together communities living in the larger Uasin Gishu.
It’s sister BBI rally has also gained momentum with the BBI Rift valley team led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi putting final touches on their plans. It is believed the team will be notifying the police, and seeking the necessary permits from next week.
The two events are likely to create tension and heighten the supremacy battles pitying DP William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi. Earlier today, Gideon Moi declared himself the de facto Rift Valley Kingpin saying the region is solidly behind the handshake.
