Police in Kakamega have arrested a Luhya man suspected to have killed his wife following a fight over Ugali.
Joseph Boyi, a middled aged man from Emakuya village in Navakholo, Kakamega county is said to have killed his wife Florence Nakonjio after they differed over a share of Ugali.
According to Sharon Margarita — daughter of the deceased — a fight ensued between her parents at midnight after her father who arrived home drunk demanded for food despite having taken supper earlier.
A distraught daughter narrated how together with her siblings, they were woken up by loud screams that came from her parent’s bedroom.
“My mother cried loudly saying dad is killing me. I could hear my dad demanding for food as she continued to beat her. I was shocked since my dad had already been served supper at around 9pm before he left only to return and demand food again.
When I tried to intervene, he threatened to beat me also.,’’ narrated an emotional Margarita.
“He banged the door and continued raining blows on my helpless mother which forced me to alert the neighbours but by the time they arrived, she had lost a lot of blood and had serious head injuries.’’
Area sub-chief Titus Muganda, confirmed the incident saying the suspect had been arrested and the panga he used in killing the wife confiscated.
The suspect was taken to Kakamega Central Police Station where he will remain in custody until he is arraigned in court on Thursday.
The sub chief warned locals against taking the law into their own hands and urged parents to seek redress from from law enforcement officers..
