The Kikuyu Council of Elders has dismissed a group of elders that visited Raila Odinga at his Bondo home.
On Saturday, a delegation of elders drawn mainly from Murang’a visited the opposition leader allegedly to install him as a Kikuyu elder and endorse him as President for 2022.
The group was led Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe and former Gatanga MP and Presidential hopeful Peter Kenneth.
Sources intimate that the organizers of the meeting believed to be powerful State House Officials want to support Raila Odinga with Peter Kenneth as running mate.
But division and infighting has already rocked the visit with the Kikuyu Council of Elders dismissing the event as inconsequential.
The council of elders led by its Chairman Samuel Kimani Maigua said the Kikuyu elders who endorsed Raila for President in Bondo were not its members.
Kamani Maigua says those were elders for hire as they were not aware of such visit or the purpoted endorsement.
The group of elders that went to Bondo on Saturday was led by Wachira Kiago, a close ally of David Murathe.
Wachira alleges to be the bonafide Kikuyu Council of Elders chairman.
None of the elders allied to Kimani Waigua attended the event.
Wachira’s group operates at Homeland lounge along Thika road just opposite Garden City Mall and are said to be daily drinkers at a pupular club.
On several occasions, Wachira Kiago has attempted to be installed as the bonafide Kikuyu Council of elders Chaiman.
The recognized Kikuyu Council of elders is led by Kimani Maigua who hails from Nakuru, with Stephen Karua from Kiambu as the secretary general while Simon Gichuru from Murang’a is the treasurer.
Peter Njenga who is spearheading BBI activities is the patron.
Kimani Maigua’s group was duly registered by the registrar of Civil Societies in 2010.
It was registered by the late Njenga Karume who was the first chairman.
Kimani Maigua says the group’ sole mandate is to unite the community.
The Kikuyu council of elders now say they will head the court to seek orders against the ‘imposter’ chairman Wachira Kiago for misusing its name.
Mount Kenya Foundation Lawyer Kevin Kariuki who also doubles as the Kikuyu Council of Elders CEO, said Wachira and group should unconditionally apologize for misusing the community’s name.
“We are exploring all options and not limited to going to court. The integrity of the Kikuy council of elders must be protected,”
The Kikuyu Council of elders have now demanded an apology from Wachira led group within 7 days or risk the wrath of the ancestors.
Maigua alleges that the group that went to Bondo is registered as a community based organization based in Embakassi and has no mandate to endorse anybody.
Wachira has denied the claims that they were paid to visit Raila’s homestead.
“The claims on social media that we were paid to endorse Raila are false. We were only extending the handshake spearhead by President by Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Our intention is to unite the Kikuyu and Luo communities for the sake of peace. Those alleging that we were paid should produce evidence,” Wachira said.
