Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi and his driver have allegedly tested positive for Coronavirus. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had reported during a press conference that his ministry was closely monitoring few cases in Kilifi and Mombasa

Sources indicate that Saburi was forcefully arrested and taken to Mbagathi isolation ward after he failed to self- quarantine after returning from a recent trip to Germany.

Detectives are tracing all contacts that may have interacted with Saburi amid reports that he met with Governor Amason Kingi during a recent cabinet meeting. The deputy governor is also reported to have interacted with opposition leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday 18. Odinga also met several coast leaders including businessman and Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Hon. Suleiman Shahbal.

The news of the duo testing positive for coronavirus has sent shock waves in Kilifi county assembly. According to a screenshot from county assembly Whatsapp group doing rounds online, the MCAs are worried that the deputy governor and his driver might have come into contact with several people.

The Kilifi deputy governor was allegedly tested in Mombasa and airlifted to Mbagathi isolation ward after exhibiting coronavirus-like symptoms.

His driver was also admitted at Mombasa Coast General hospital after experiencing high fever and breathing problems.

If the reports of Kilfi deputy governor testing positive for coronavirus are true, Saburi will become the first state officer to contract the deadly virus that has seen seven Kenyans test positive with several in isolation wards under observation.

The Kilifi incident comes amid two other reported cases at Msambweni in Kwale. According to the police, as captured in the Occurence Book number 50/21/03/2020,

It was been reported by Mr Kelvin M.O.H Musambweni sub-county hospital mobile number 0724875579 that he was called for an emergency case at Afrikan pearl hotel within Diani map Ref 628628 on two guests namely Legree Divergent Isabella of passport number 19DK12957, age 55yrs and Facetime Patrick Rowland Raul passport number 13AK77739 aged 57 yrs both French national who arrived on 14th March 2020 and expected to depart on 21st March 2020.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has called on Kenyans to exercise personal responsibility to curb the spread of Corona virus. Mutahi who has been lauded for the calmness and timely updates, said the success of self-quarantine and social distancing in the next two weeks is critical as it will determine if corona will be controlled or will spiral to a full-blown disaster.
