Mwangi Kiunjuri and Adan Mohammed are the latest casualties in President Kenyatta’s cabinet changes that Uhuru says are meant to improve service delivery.
While giving a State of the Nation address this morning in Mombasa State House, President Uhuru Kenyatta sacked Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and trade CS Aden Mohammed. The changes saw former Trade CS Peter Munya moved to Agriculture while Simon Chelugui was moved to Labor. Yukur Yatani has been confirmed as the substantive CS Treasury.
Also moved are Recho Omamo to Foreign affairs and Monica Juma to Defence. The President also appointed Mutahi Kagwe and Betty Maina as CS Health and Trade respectively. The President also made a raft of changes and appointments with regard to Principal Secretaries and Chief Administrative Secretaries.
The sacking of Mwangi Kiunjuri was imminent due to his association with Tangatanga group allied to DP William Ruto and the apparent feeling that the President has been targeting those opposed to the BBi.
A section of Pro- BBi Mps have been calling for the sacking of Mwangi Kiunjuri saying he has poorly managed the Agriculture ministry.
Asked by a journalist whether he had sacked Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri since he did not mention him in his statement, the President replied in the affirmative saying those who have not been mentioned like Mwangi Kiunjuri should consider themselves sacked.
The President also made far reaching changes that he says will improve the fortunes of Maize, Coffee and Tea farmers.
