Uhuru Kenyatta is set to preside over the official launch of Kisumu port on Tuesday next week, the 14th of 2020. The event will also be graced by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Kisumu governor Anyang Nyongo said the launch marks the culmination of the much awaited development to the people of Kisumu and will open endless opportunities for investments and jobs for the youth. The official launch of Kisumu port comes after 2 years of rehabilitation in what was billed as a Ksh. 10 billion mega project. Several formal and informal business near the port were brought down to pave way for the expansive refurbishment of the once giant port.

ODM leader has often time and again hyped the Kisumu port rehabilitation project saying 5 regional Heads of States will preside over the launch. This is the first time after the launch of BBi report at Bomas last year that the two handshake brothers are coming face to face.
In the same week Kenyatta is also expected to attend a luhya BBi meeting organised by Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Cotu boss Francis Atwoli. According to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, the meeting packaged as a luhya unity event is meant to isolate him, drive support for the BBi report that lost flair after the Tangatanga wing of Jubilee unanimously promised to support, and sell Raila’s dwindling fortunes. Its believed Uhuru will also held a series of road side rallies with his handshake brother Raila Odinga to drum up support for the handshake.

The port which was rehabilitated at a cost of Ksh. 800M is now the center of DCI investigations. Already Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Daniel Manduku has been quizzed by the DCi over the tendering process and claims of tender inflation in excess of Ksh. 600M .
President Uhuru Kenyatta has stressed the importance of Kisumu port in facilitating bulk transportation of fuel to the neighbouring Uganda this easing traffic congestion and snarls ups on the road.
