ODM leader Raila Odinga has reiterated that the Building Bridges Initiative will fix all our problems as Kenyans. The former premier who was speaking in Kisii county on Friday during a BBi conference praised the BBi report and the looming referendum as the panacea to Kenya’s problems that has bedeviled the country since independence.
The Building Bridges Initiative has been nicknamed “Beba Baba Ikulu” by those opposed to the Initiative. Already the Deputy President William Ruto has thrashed the BBi as Raila’s plan to craft new alliances ahead of 2022 and wondered why public funds should be used when the report was acceptable to a wider population in its current form. Ruto was speaking Narok during the official opening of a church. The DP was accompanied by a host of governors and MPs including Moses Kuria who declared 2022 campaigns to have officially started. Kuria said the wing allied to DP William Ruto should be equally respected since the Odinga wing have started campaigns in earnest.
But Raila Odinga holds a different view denying that referendum change is not about an individual and that the BBi rallies are purely meant to publicize the report and take it to the grassroots. Odinga said the new constitution will liberate Kenyans from poverty and joblessness among the youth. The former premier urged the youth to be at the forefront in championing for constitutional amendment as it will bring meaningful change and prosperity.
He also urged the members of the county assembly to started BBI mobilisation at the ward leves in anticipation of a referendum.
