A delegation of Pokot leaders that paid a courtesy call to opposition leader Raila Odinga at his Capital Hill Office on Wednesday have decried lack of payment.
The delegation which included community elders, professionals and church elders said despite making close to 1000km journey from Kapenguria to Nairobi and back, their efforts were futile as they they were not paid Ksh 10,000 promised before the trip as fare and allowances.
The leaders alleged they were given Ksh 1000 after meeting the ODM leader, an amount which they say is too little to even gather for fare cost.
Some of those who had borrowed money to make the torturous journey to Nairobi said they were forced to sleep at their relatives while others slept in the streets after they exhausted the little money they had.
“We have been forced to sleep at our relatives while others have slept in the streets”, said one elder who was part of the delegation.
The leaders allege efforts to reach the ODM leader on phone have been unsuccessful as their calls went unanswered.
They are now calling upon Raila Odinga to intervene saying the money might have been diverted by his aides.
Raila has been meeting various delegations at his Capital Hill Office as he seeks to tilt the scale for his 2022 bid.
The Capital Hill Office has also come under spotlight over alleged corruption ‘sanitization’.
Raila’s critics accused the ODM leader of meeting corrupt governors and MPs at Capital Hill and taking bribes in exchange of shielding them from prosecution.
Several governors have allegedly been ‘sanitized’ at Capital Hill notably embattled Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru.
Raila lately is said to have copied from Ruto’s playbook of politics word for word.
Ruto is known for holding delegation at his Karen Office.
Recently Raila also visited Kisii and Mombasa counties just days after DP Ruto tour of the same.
He is also expected in Kisii county at the same time when DP Ruto will be presiding over fundraisers there.
