Daily Star has learnt of a spirited multi-front scheme by the ODM party to have its party leader Raila Odinga made chief minister under President Uhuru Kenyatta.

If the plot succeeds, Raila will take the post currently occupied by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i who is also in charge of coordinating all government projects.

According to a strategy document seen by Daily Star, and which will be presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM considers that it will be for the best interest for the handshake and BBI to have Raila as the Chief Minister.

“Raila has been an integral cog of the BBI, and for the process to move on smoothly in line with your vision, it will be prudent to appoint Raila as the Chief Minister. This will not only ensure smooth execution of government projects, but also ensure full implementation of the BBI report”, read part of the letter to be delivered to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But for the strategy to have Raila as chief minister to be successful, Raila and the ODM party sees and considers DP William Ruto as the biggest impediment to that dream.

Top on the cards is to have him impeached, a process which has started in earnest with the collection of signatures. Their counterparts in Jubilee have dared the ODM party to make good its threats and table the impeachment motion.

The ODM MPs have accused Ruto of a litany of allegations asking him to shape up or be shipped out.

“Ruto must shape up or ship out. He needs time and undivided attention to focus on his 2022 presidential campaigns ” said the ODM MPs during a press conference on Wednesday.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Jubilee legislators ganged up in their numbers terming the allegations frivolous and without basis.

Sources aware with the intrigues in ODM said the party is getting worried that the BBI report may not actualize into a referendum as widely envisaged and the party has been forced into an overdrive to have a second plan of option.
