Jubilee to replace Duale and Murkomen, Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju has confirmed. Tuju says the party will be changing its leadership in parliament when members of parliament resume session next month. Tuju’s announcement paves way for official confrontation between TangaTanga and Kieleweke factions of Jubilee. Deputy President William Ruto enjoys support in the National Assembly and the move by Jubilee to replace Duale and Murkomen may not be a walk in the park. He will ultimately marshal his troops to shoot down any proposed changes.
Those targeted in the purge are leader of majority in both houses, chief whips and chairperson of committees. Aden Duale is the majority leader in parliament whereas Kipchumba Murkomen is the senate majority leader both of whom are die hard William Ruto allies. Susan Kihika the Senate majority whip is also targeted for replacement as is Mumias East MP and National Assembly Majority whip Benjamin Washiali.
In announcing the looming parliamentary leadership changes, Tuju castigated Murkomen for being anti-government and defending the corrupt governors which he said is against government policy. According to Raphael Tuju, Murkomen should be in the forefront supporting government agenda in the house. He cited the recent impeachment where the Elgeyo Marakwet senator opposed the impeachment of Ferdinand Waititu.
“We will be effecting parliamentary changes in order to improve efficiency of house business. Let’s not read too much politics that it’s targeted at certain individuals. What is important here is that we need people who can push government business in the house, and not 2022 politics”, said Raphael Tuju.
Daily Star had exclusively reported that State House was mulling changes in parliamentary leadership allegedly to improve parliamentary business. The article Gideon Gideon Moi to replace Murkomen as Senate Majority leader in new changes reported that a working framework between Jubilee and Kanu was in the offing to gift the Baringo senator Murkomen’s position.
According to reliable sources, Uhuru Kenyatta is in talks with Baringo senator Gwedion Moi of Kanu to replace Kipchumba Murkomen. Reached for comment, the Baringo senator confirmed talks were at an advance stage and that there was no problem in Kanu being the leader of majority since he supports President Uhuru Kenyatta and shares in his vision for a better Kenya.
If Jubilee successfully replaces Duale and Murkomen, they will join a long list of politicians allied to DP William Ruto who have become victims of state intolerance to divergent views.
