Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli wants Ruto to stop pretending to be Uhuru Kenyatta’s spokesman. According to Atwoli, Uhuru is capable of speaking for himself and has not asked anybody to be his spokesman.
Atwoli was responding to Ruto’s recent remarks that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not interested in extending his stay in power beyond 2022. The Deputy President weighed into succession politics saying those urging Uhuru Kenyatta to extend stay in power are selfish politicians doing so without Uhuru’s permission.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is not interested in extending his power or the Prime Minister’s position being peddled by some drunk brokers. I know Uhuru Kenyatta is focused on the Big 4 agenda and wouldn’t want to taint his legacy by extending his stay”, he said.
William Ruto’s remarks seems to have irked Francis Atwoli the wrong way prompting the Cotu Secretary General to warn Ruto to desist from being President Uhuru Kenyatta’s spokesman.
The Cotu Secretary General said it’s the height of hypocrisy for William Ruto to insinuate that its drunk brokers and conmen who are pushing Uhuru to extend his term.
“Very soon we are going to unmask William Ruto because he cannot disrespect his boss and even fight him while pretending to be his spokesman,” he said.
“It’s William Ruto and his Tangatanga group who are the biggest conmen in this country. Who grabbed KCAA land? Who imported maize? Who was mentioned in Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal? Those are the conmen”, he added.
The controversial Cotu boss says Kieleweke faction of Jubilee allied to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga are pushing for meaningful reforms that will ensure inclusivity at the national table.
Atwoli has however been dealt a blow after ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and a section of luhya members of parliament rejected his planned luhya BBi meeting at Bukhungu stadium scheduled for the 18th of January. Read Musalia Mudavadi rejects luhya BBi meeting by Francis Atwoli
On the luhya BBi meeting , Atwoli has asked the locals to turn in large numbers to Bukhungu stadium saying President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga will attend. He warned those opposed to the meeting urging them to stay at home. According to Atwoli, Raila Odinga is his relative from Wanga Kingdom and therefore a luhya. ” My brother Raila is a luhya, so those castigating this meeting are misplaced since Raila Odinga is their brother”, he said.
Atwoli was reacting to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa remarks that he lacks the capacity and standing to convene a luhya meeting. “Atwoli is known ODM and Raila stooge and he cannot purport to plan a meeting to discuss Luhya affairs”, said Barasa.
The Cotu boss has also come under criticism over is Uhuru is too young to retire remarks which have been echoed by Uhuru’s cousin and nominated Senator Beth Mugo and Strategic Grain Reserve Chair Dr. Noah Wekesa.
Former Jubilee party vice chairman has also been on the receiving end of Tangatanga MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto. Murathe’s remarks that Uhuru is going nowhere prompted Kandara MP Alice Wahome to brand Uhuru as the worst dictator- a move that saw her receive equal backlash from Kieleweke wing of Jubilee.
But according to Atwoli, Kenyans are entitled to their own opinion and Deputy President should not intimidate them into cowardice by being Uhuru’s spokesman.
